What is nearby?
Directly across the street is a park with playground equipment and ball fields. In the summer you will often be able to watch a baseball game from the front porch. The park has a basketball court and tennis courts.

Nearby, in Newport you will find a bike path that is also a great walking path. Bikers can bike into Canada. Elm Street Manor Bed and Breakfast is very close to a number of Quebec vacation spots.

There is a casino right across the border and in Canada. Remember to bring your passport or birth certificate and license. Currently the law allows you to have either but will soon require a passport.

Unique characteristics of a Vermont bed and breakfast:
If you've never traveled to the Northeast Kingdom before you might be surprised to learn that due to inclement weather, shoes are not worn inside. Homes have a "mudroom" where all shoes are left and slippers are worn instead. We do have slippers that are available to guests who forgot to bring their own.

The VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) trail is directly down Main Street and easily accessible to Elm Street Manor guests. Downhill skiing at Jay Peak and Owl's Head in Canada are both approximately 40 minutes away. Lake Memphremagog is 10 miles away for boating, fishing (regular and ice fishing), kayaking, camping and a variety of seasonal activities. Golf is located near Lake Memphremagog.

General information:
Old homes in the Northeast Kingdom are characteristically not as well insulated as newer homes. Remember to bring a sweater and socks so that you are ready for any cold weather, which may occur.

The summer provides many outdoor opportunities. To some, it may still be chilly with the evenings getting cooler. The air is clear and you may want to sit outside and look at the stars.
